Noun Grammar

The table below shows all possible cases for a noun.

The default case in a noun sentence is:

Noun Sentence = Subject + Predicate

الجُمْلَةُ الإِسْمِيَةُ تتَكَوَنْ مِنْ مُبْتَدَأْ وَخَبَرْ

Subject = المُبْتَدَأْ is Marfo'a مَرْفُوعْ

Predicate = الخَبَرْ is Marfo'a  مَرْفُوعْ

All non specified names get Tanween. For example, "a car" will get tanween but "the car" will not. (سَياّرَةً، السَياًرَةَ)

This means that all specified names do not get Tanween.

Foreign names in Arabic do not get Tanween. For example Pharaoh word (فِرْعَونُ) do not get Tanween

Let us follow this conversation and examine the words we are using

We are trying to wake up this guy. Observe the commands, the requests and the replies.

There are four possible Harakat for the last letter in the wordL fatha, Kasra, Dama, Skoon.

The verb sentence starts with a verb and has a subject.

Verb Sentence = Verb + Subject.

Noun Sentence starts with a noun followed by predicate.

Noun Sentence = Noun + Predicate.

The Harakat of the last letter are determined by grammar rules (الإعراب).

The example below demonstrates how the harakat can change the meaning of the settees.

The Dama is for the subject and the fatha is for the object.

5) Using the rules of Lam, classify the following Lams an moon or sun. Make a table with two columns, one column is for sun and the other column is for the moon. Write each of the words below in the right column.

الحمد، الخير، الصيام، الإفطار، العشاء، الصلاة، الشهادة، الليل، الضمير، النهار، الشر، البعث، الحساب، النشور، التوحيد، الشرك، الحياة، الممات، الطويل، القصير

Notes:

The Moon Lam is pronounced and has skoon on the top of it.

The Sun Lam is not pronounced and has no skoon on the top of it.

The rule is to look at the letter following the Lam. If it has Shaddah or one of the moon letters below, then it is Shamsia. Otherwise, it is Qamaria.

  4. For Surat Alfatiha, copy the Surah, underline Hamzat Al-Wasl and indicate what vowel it is going to pronounce if you start reading from it based on the third letter rule. Click here to get the third letter rule. You can also see it in the explanation of the third letter rule below.

For example القيوم has hamazat wasl and if you start reading from it pronounces with Fatha (AA).
